Hamilton’s Public Art celebrates Hamilton’s character, and reflects the uniqueness of its setting enhancing the culture of the city and its people. Hamilton’s public art works have been created to be accessible to members of the public and are located in public spaces.

The Public Art Plan – 2010-2020

The Plan outlines the opportunities, and key themes  to help prioritise the acquisition of public art in the city. This strategic approach will enable the city to better  achieve its vision for public art over the next ten years. The Plan sets out the priority sites for developing a public art presence.

Art in Public Places Policy

The objectives of the Art in Public Places Policy are:

  • To contribute to the creation of a unique identity for Hamilton – a sense of place
  • To promote public art of excellence that inspires and challenges us
  • To encourage art works that have relevance to their site; to the history, the environment, or the cultural significance
  • To ensure public art works are well managed, maintained and promoted
