Environmental Sustainability Strategy

Plant in hands

a sustainable city

The Environmental Sustainability Strategy outlines the changes we need to make, to create a sustainable Hamilton. The Strategy gives Hamilton the opportunity to strike the delicate balance between economic growth, land use, and the protection of important environmental resources.

It sets out our key priorities and how we will respond to the needs, challenges, and opportunities of the city.

There are four key theme areas of the Strategy

  • mobilised and responsive communities
  • environmentally sensitive urban growth
  • healthy ecosystems
  • resource conservation

A series of flagship projects have been identified that will help us shape change over the next 5 years in a positive way. Also a series of scorecards are being developed to help us see how we are doing.
