Objective
To identify Hamilton City parks which will be lit to enable their safe night-time use and to specify the manner in which that lighting will be provided.
Policy
Security lighting will be provided on parks where:
- There is existing or potential approved night-time use of a park that will be made safer and easier through provision of security lighting, or
- Potential demand for night-time use of a park will be demonstrated by the existence of:
- a significant night-time venue within or accessed across a park;
- a significant number of people who would be encouraged to participate in approved activities on the park during night-time, through improved security, and
- The community has been consulted in the context of a full consideration and implementation of measures to improve the security of night-time use of the park; and
- Installation of security lighting will be considered on a case by case basis taking account of the total cost, the anticipated use and the resulting increase in security, and
- Security lighting for parks will be subject to a site specific design in accordance with AS/NZS1158.3.1:1999 Pedestrian Area (Category P) Lighting-Performance and Installation Design Requirements, or its amendment.
