ReStyle (previously Trash to Fashion) transforms everyday waste and enables art to perform on stage in the hottest event on Hamilton's cultural calendar. The competition is open to anyone and challenges designers to create 'wearable art' by recycling and reusing materials that would normally be seen as waste.

For one night fashion, art and waste merge as one, and are theatrically presented through a spectacular display of stunning music, dance and light with local musical talent and dancers being showcased on stage.

ReStyle is more than a fashion show, more than an arts exhibition, and more than an awards night.  It is Project Runway meets World of Wearable Arts, culminating into an extravaganza that weaves perceptions of fashion and art together, and transforms them into a montage of theatre, colour, movement and art, while being delivered through an environmentally friendly show.

Be prepared to be dazzled by the beauty and talent that exists in our city with the tenth annual ReStyle Awards. It's a show not to be missed, and a night out that is impossible to forget.

Be sure to book early to avoid disappointment. Tickets will be on sale mid 2010.

2009 Results

ReStyle 09 received a record number of entries and the judges had a difficult job selecting winners with the high quality of garment that were received.  Check out the Waikato Times article about 2009 Supreme Winner Lauren Briffault who's garment was made from apple skins and fruit stickers.  Since the show Lauren has featured in a women's magazine and her garment was showcased on TV One's Breakfast show.

What is ReStyle?

ReStyle, coordinated by Trash to Fashion Charitable Trust, is a 'wearable art' competition that is open to students and designers in the greater Waikato region, encouraging them to design wearable art that is made by recycling and reusing organic and inorganic materials.

The objectives of the competition are:

  • To raise awareness of waste minimisation issues, in particular, the concept of recycling and reuse
  • To encourage youth to get involved in environmental initiatives
  • To encourage creativity and design talents.
