Proposed Amendments to the Public Places Liquor Control Bylaw 2007 |
Hamilton City Council is proposing:
- that the existing Public Places Liquor Control Bylaw 2007 be amended and replaced with the Hamilton Public Places Liquor Control Bylaw 2010; and
- that, in addition to the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week liquor bans in the CBD and Te Rapa in the 2007 bylaw, that the 2010 bylaw prohibit the consumption and possession of liquor in all public places in Hamilton City between the hours of 10pm and 6am; and
- that the maximum fine for an offense under the bylaw be reduced from $20,000 to $500.
The purpose of this bylaw is to prohibit or control the consumption of, bringing into and possession of liquor in public places for the purpose of protecting the public from nuisance, protecting, promoting and maintaining public health and safety and minimising the potential for offensive behaviour in public places. Public places include roads, service lanes, footpaths, pedestrian malls, public carparks, parks and reserves. |
