'Prior to applying to work at Council in June 2002, I wasn't even aware that there was a Community Development unit at HCC!
My previous work experience in a community not-for-profit organisation has given me some insight and understanding of the many community groups and organisations with whom we interact. The various roles of the teams and individuals in Community Development combine to support and strengthen Hamilton communities and community groups.
I appreciate Council's strong customer focus, which is central to the work of community development. In the past, councils have had a reputation for bureaucracy and red-tape - however, thankfully, this is not the issue it once was and I enjoy the challenge of helping to break down any barriers, build bridges and work in partnership with the community.
Council also holds to sound values that I can adhere to and contribute towards. This includes a culture of continuous improvement in the way we work and how we get things done. I also think that Council is a good employer, with staff supported and their professional development encouraged. It's good to part of an organisation that exists to administer the city and serve it's residents and communities.'
