Objective

To improve street numbering in the city.

Policy

Council will allow property owners to install reflective kerb-mounted property numbers on Hamilton city streets, subject to the following conditions:

  • Agreement Forms
    • Signed agreement forms must are to be obtained from property owners prior to fixing numbers.
    • Agreements must are to clearly state that the numbering system is optional, and supplementary only to the numbering as required under the City Council's Bylaws.
    • The form must should also state that the Hamilton City Council accepts no responsibility for the quality or maintenance of the firm's product.
    • Copies of the signed agreement forms are to be kept on the suppliers' files at all times.
  • Numbers are to be fixed using adhesives only and any damage done to kerb or footpaths must to be repaired to the satisfaction of Council.
  • Neither the Council nor any other service authority or contractor working within the legal street environment will be responsible for the replacement of any street damaged or lost as a result of their authorised operations. No assurance can be given that kerb and channel will not be replaced.
  • The numbers shall remain in use at the pleasure of the Council, and if such approval is withdrawn, the supplier will be responsible for removing the numbers as required and/or meeting the cost of such removals, however, withdrawal of Council approval will not be unreasonably invoked.

Council staff have delegated authority to process possible future applications for similar property numbering systems, subject to the above conditions.

In the event of a the supplier ceasing to exist, and/or failing to act, the property owner shall be responsible for the street numbers.
