Most impoundings are caused by dog owners not keeping their dogs under control. To maintain public safety, Dog Control Officers impound roaming dogs. A number are restrained by the public and collected by Dog Control officers. Some are seized following an offence.
Impounding fees must be paid before the dog is released from the Animal Care and Control Centre. Payment options include cash and eftpos. (excluding credit cards). Please note that impound, seizure and sustenance fees can not be paid by cheque.
Impounding Fees
These reflect the costs of the capture of the dog, transportation, and provision of shelter and care for the dog.
Sustenance Fees
All dogs in the Animal Care and Control Centre must be fed, exercised and sheltered properly, and kept in clean conditions. Sustenance fees are a cost to Council and are recoverable from the dog owner.
Seizure Fees
In cases where dogs are seized and a notice issued to a dog owner, a seizure fee is charged to recover costs. |
