    Service Types

    Full Service

With this service, family and friends can provide a comprehensive ceremony, usually lasting for one hour, to celebrate and remember the life of the deceased person. While normally held in our main Chapel, a full service can also take place in our smaller Lounge, providing a more intimate farewell.

    Committal

A Committal provides an opportunity for family to have a shorter service, approximately 30 minutes, wherein the can 'commit' the deceased to, depending on religious beliefs, their deity or to the elements.

    Delivery

This 10-15 minute service provides opportunity for immediate family and close friends to have a few final private moments alone to say goodbye to their loved one. It can take place in addition to a Full Service or Committal, which can be held either at Hamilton Park Cemetery or elsewhere, or can be used as an alternative to the longer services.

    View Charge

This service provides opportunity for family members to see their loved one's casket enter the cremator. This service commonly occurs as part of several religious practices.

    Private Cremation

This is not a service; instead the term is used when the funeral director brings the deceased to the crematorium without the company of family or friends of the deceased. This normally occurs when a service has been held elsewhere or to honour the deceased's wishes previously expressed to family to not 'make a fuss.'

Sometimes families prefer to bring the deceased themselves to the cemetery. In these instances the Lounge will need to be booked as we do not permit public to go to the same area as funeral directors. Whether the delivery service fee will apply is dependent on if family decide last minute to stay a little longer to bid their farewells.

    The Cremation process

Once the casket arrives at the crematorium it is given a unique identifier number that will track it through our system.

At no time is the casket opened unless with the authority of and in the presence of the family or the funeral director acting on behalf of the family.

Cremation uses intense heat to reduced the body to bone ash and takes approximately one hour.

The ash is placed in a standard plastic urn, pictured here, supplied by Council and is securely packaged and labelled.

Please note: Ashes are held at the cemetery for a maximum of two weeks, after which they are to be collected by either the family member whose name is recorded on the "Permission to Cremate" form or the funeral director acting on behalf of the family.  Photo identification is required for family members when collecting ashes from cemetery administration office. We ask that family please contact the office before coming to collect ashes so that we can arrange to have the ashes brought to the office in time for collection.

    • Should family decide to inter or memorialise ashes at Hamilton Park Cemetery, further information is available on our  Ash Burial and Memorial  page.

    Wooden Urns

    Personally Selected Urns

Families may provide their own urn if they wish. If family intend to place the ashes in a plot at Hamilton Park Cemetery, please consult with a funeral director, or directly with cemetery staff, to ensure the urn will fit into the plot.

Most funeral directors will have a supply of urns to choose from or family may provide a suitable container from other sources.

If supplied in advance, the ashes of a loved one can be transferred directly into the urn by cemetery staff. Alternatively a funeral director is able to transfer the ashes from the Council supplied urn to one of your choice at a later date.
