2013 Council of Elders
If you are over 60 years of age, a proactive, positive and proud Hamiltonian, the Council of Elders could be for you.
Nominations are open from early November, however if you are interested in being part of the Council of Elders we would welcome your early enquiry. Nominations are open to any one who is 60 years or over and is a resident of Hamilton City. The nomination must be supported by two other residents and submitted no later than ten working days prior to the Council of Elders AGM (1st Friday of December).
If there are more nominations then vacancies, an election is held during the AGM. At this time, nomineess are given the opportunity to speak for 1-2 minutes and provide a summary of their experiences and what they would be able to offer the Council of Elders committee. All of those present at the AGM are eligible to vote.
If there are enough nominees for vacancies, the nominees are confirmed as members at the AGM meeting.
It is important that all members declare any potential conflicts of interest in their application and at the first meeting of the Council of Elders. Information regarding this can be found in the Council of Elders constitution.

Who are we?
The Council of Elders is made up of 15 men and women, from different backgrounds, aged over 60 and elected by Hamilton residents.
Representatives of the Council of Elders are expected to be currently involved in their communities and be able to utilise their networks for consultation on various projects and topical issues.
The Council of Elders meet on a monthly basis and regularly liase with councillors and Hamilton City Council staff in a range of capacities.
2012 Council of Elders AGM
The Council of Elders AGM will be held at the Hamilton City Council Reception Lounge, Friday 7 December, commencing at 10am.
