Purchasing privileges
We have over 30 suppliers of goods and services who provide discounts to HCC staff members (and in some cases their families), including dentists, optometrists, building supplies, paint and accessories, tyres, batteries, gyms, florists, insurance etc.
Social club
We have a great social club that puts on a Quiz Night, Mid-Winter Ball, Kids Christmas Party and many other exciting events. To belong to the club, you invest just $1 per pay - what a great deal!
Location
The main office building for Council is situated in the heart of Hamilton, surrounded by shops and cafes, which makes lunchtimes very tempting! Our offices are close to major malls, banks and other services provided in a large metropolitan city such as ours. However, if you are into saving money then you can use our on site cafe that provides both a place to buy your lunch relatively inexpensively, or facilities to prepare your own. With a great view of the city centre, PCs for internet access and a pool table, it's not a bad way to spend your lunch break.
Although our main office is located in the centre of the city, approximately half of our staff are located at our satelite locations - this might be the Museum, Hamilton Zoo, Hamilton Gardens, Waterworld or Gallaghers Aquatic Centre, treatment plants, community libraries, a theatre or an events centre, community centres and even some community parks/sports grounds.
Transportation
Many of our staff choose to bike or bus to work. The bus terminal is a short walk across the road from the main building and secure bike storage is available. There is free street parking 15 minutes walk from the main building. Under cover, secure car parking is available at the Knox Street car park at a competitively priced early-bird rate of $4.50 per day (you just need to be parked before 9am), and the free city shuttle bus service is available to and from Knox Street every 10 mins.
Climate survey
Each year our staff have their say about a range of topics from Management Strategy to Reward and Recognition. Our most highly rated areas for staff satisfaction are "challenging work" "people contact" and "working for the city".
June 2006 results indicate that staff are increasingly positive about working for HCC and have made comments like "I work with a wonderful team of people", "working in a field that I find interesting" and "flexible work hours to accommodate family". |
