Flu Vaccinations
Every year we offer our staff free flu vaccinations and vaccinations for their family members at a discounted rate.
Free health checks
All staff are offered an annual health check that is carried out on an individual and confidential basis. Testing is carried out on site and offers staff information on any area of concern. Staff may be referred to their GP if there is anything significant that is uncovered during the check up.
Health insurance
Council participates in a group scheme with Southern Cross. Due to the size of our group, members (staff) achieve very reasonable prices for their health care.
Back and neck massages
Once a week we have a massage specialist visit our main office building and a number of staff book in to have a 15 mins 'tension buster!' This service is a small investment for staff, but gives maximum reward!
Health and safety
We take safety and wellbeing seriously at Council. We aim to provide a healthy and safe workplace to ensure our staff and the people we work with are able to go home to their families each day.
We encourage all Council staff to actively participate and contribute to an effective and proactive Health and Safety Management Programme that facilitates compliance to legislative requirements, codes of practice and applicable standards - including the ISO9001:2000 Quality Management Standard and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP) Programme.
We encourage all incidents and near hits to be reported to help identify workplace hazards, enabling the minimisation of accidents. We carry out Health and Safety Audits at all Council locations, ensuring we are taking all practicable steps to provide a safe workplace for our staff, contractors, visitors and members of the public.
In August 2008 Council was awarded with the ACC WSMP Tertiary level for health and safety for the second time.
Assessments and training
There are designated Health and Safety representatives in each unit who work actively with staff and contractors to reduce risk and increase Health and Safety awareness. Full training along with regular meetings and refreshers are included for these representatives.
First aid training is given for staff who are a designated first aid attendant, and we'll even pay you an allowance for this.
Workstation assessments are carried out for all new staff who use computers to make sure the set up does not cause any discomfort. Other training options, such as driver awareness, back injury prevention, are also offered to staff during the year.
We ensure all staff involved in specific operational areas are trained so they can carry out their jobs safely – such as confined spaces, agrichemical application etc. |
