Recycle or reuse guidelines for "who and where"

Kerbside recycling

You can recycle:

Plastics 1 and 2

  • You can recycle all plastics numbered 1 and 2 (including milk and soft drink bottles).
  • Look for the number on the bottom of the plastic container.
  • Remove lids, clean and squash the bottles and place in your recycling crate.

Aluminium and tin cans

  • Clean them, squash flat and place steel and aluminium cans, including food cans, beer and soft drink cans in the bin.
  • Aluminium foil, plates or trays and paint cans can't be recycled.

Glass bottles and jars

  • You can recycle green, brown and clear glass bottles and jars.
  • All items need to be clean without lids.
  • Broken glass, frosted glass, window glass, blue glass, drinking glasses or cups as well as mirrors, pyrex, light bulbs, ceramics and crystal can't be recycled.
  • Place any broken glass into your normal rubbish bag, well wrapped.
  • Rinse the recyclable bottles before you put them into the recycling bin.

Paper and cardboard

  • If it is not waxed or coated, full colour circulars, magazines, window envelopes and brown corrugated cardboard can also be recycled.
  • Paper that has been contaminated with food such as pizza boxes or milk cartons can't be recycled.
  • Tie paper in bundles or place in supermarket bags next to your recycling crate.
  • Please securely bundle paper and cardboard next to the recycling crate.

Please keep our streets clean and tidy by:

  • Not overloading the recycling crate (please squash your cans and plastic).
  • Tying paper and cardboard securely.
  • Not placing recyclables and refuse at the kerbside before your collection day.
