Precautionary notice lifted -- Dinsdale water safe to drink
Posted On: Tuesday, 31 January 2006
The water in the Dinsdale water supply zone has been confirmed as safe to drink without the precautionary step of boiling it first.
A section of residents in Dinsdale were advised on Saturday afternoon to take the precautionary measure of boiling water before consumption after low levels of indicator organisms had been identified in the Dinsdale water supply zone.
The lifting of the 'notice to boil water' has come after three clear days where water sample tests have shown no indicator organisms in the water. Affected residents have been advised of the lifting in the same manner that the notice was given, that is, by letter drop to their properties.
Water and waste manager Leroy Leach says that although the precautionary notice to boil water may have inconvenienced some residents he wanted to reassure residents the health of Hamilton's water supply is an absolute priority.
The Dinsdale reservoir has been identified as the source area of the problem. It has been isolated from the water supply network. It will be drained, inspected, rectified and confirmed safe before it is refilled and brought back into service. There should be little to no change in normal service during this time.
Water quality monitoring will continue as a part of the normal monitoring programme.
