Civic Awards honour contributors to our city

Posted On: Friday, 9 December 2005

The Civic Awards ceremony is held annually near Council's birthday to honour some of the individuals who have contributed to making Hamilton a better place to live.

There are six award categories being: Art and Culture; Education; Environment; Human Rights; People and Well-being; and Sport.  This year, 14 finalists received awards in one or more of the categories.

Hamilton mayor Michael Redman says the Civic Awards are a strong reminder that there are many individuals in our community who make outstanding contributions to life in Hamilton.

"The Civic Awards always attract a high calibre of nominations which is testament to the many unsung heroes who, through their everyday work and dedication, put great time and effort into improving the quality of life in Hamilton.  All nominations represent a person who is making Hamilton a better place to live. It is pleasing to have the opportunity to honour some of these individuals with a Civic Award."
