Indian culture in focus at museum event

Waikato Museum is organising an Indian Cultural Day in conjunction with the local Indian community to celebrate the vibrant culture and complement the Gandhi exhibition currently on show.

The Saturday, 3 July programme includes classical dances, several demonstrations including aryuvedic medicine, henna, sari and turban tying, scheduled Gandhi exhibition tours, a lecture on Gandhi and a movie. The programme detail is outlined below:

10am - Classical Dance by Hamilton Girls High School

10.20am - Silk Palace children's Dance Group

10.40am - Waikato Indian Association Dance Group

11am - Demonstrations (see list below) and guided tour of Gandhi exhibition begins simultaneously:

  • Ayurvedic Medicine
  • Henna Drawing
  • Sari Tying
  • Turban Tying

11.30am - Story-telling
Kids Activities and spot prizes

12pm - Lecture by Mr. Keith Barber at the Lecture Theatre

1pm - Gandhi Film at the Lecture Theatre

4pm - Movie and all activities concludes

The Museum Cafe is supporting the day, offering a special Indian menu to patrons.

All activities are free of charge, however a gold coin donation will be welcomed.
