Libraries upgrade requires temporary service disruption

Posted On: Friday, 4 June 2004

An upgrade to the Hamilton City Libraries computer system means a number of the electronic services will not be available for four days [14-17 June].

Advisory and education team leader Fiona Johnson says that core services of issuing and returning items are not affected.

"You will still be able to take out items and return them, but as the computerised search engine will be inactive I would encourage customers to use our experienced staff when searching for items. Reserving items, either in the library or over the internet at home, is also unavailable during the four days."

This scheduled temporary service disruption is a result of a comprehensive computer systems and cataloguing upgrade. The upgrade will improve customer's ability to search, as well as improving the libraries' purchasing and cataloguing systems. It also enables further upgrades in the future. Although four days have been allocated to the job it is possible work will be completed earlier.
