A low response for dog registrations in Hamilton may be attributed to confusion over requirements for micro-chipping of new dogs. Hamilton will welcome 200 new citizens tonight [Monday, 26 June 2006] at this year's second citizenship ceremony. The ceremony will be held at Founders Theatre at 7pm. The first planting of kowhai trees for what is set to become an annual event in Hamilton took place along the Waikato River bank today [Tuesday, 20 June]. Tokopikowhakahau, the meeting house standing within Waikato Museum's marae atea, is bound for Asia early next year. A dog identified as being responsible for a serious attack on a woman in Frankton last week has been seized by Council's Animal Care team. It is believed that immediately after the attack the animal was removed from the city, possibly to avoid detection from authorities. Council is appealing to the Frankton community to help locate a dog that made an attack yesterday [Wednesday, 31 May]. The dog made an attack on a walker along Hawk Street in Frankton. Council's Animal Care unit responded immediately upon receiving notification of the attack but has not yet been able to locate the dog.
